Lamella Bio
Programming the world’s most versatile kingdom.
Penicillin, statins, fermented foods, industrial enzymes, biopesticides, alternative proteins, mycelium materials. Some radiotrophic fungi even harness radiation as an energy source.
Fungi underpin countless industries of modern civilization, and hold enormous potential that remains largely unexplored.
Yet despite this importance, fungi remain one of the most systematically under-modeled kingdoms in biology. Thousands of fungal genomes already sit in public databases, but no serious DNA foundation model has been built on top of them.
Biology’s long tail. A space everyone left empty while focusing on humans and animals.
That is where we focus.
We believe now is the inflection point.
Fungal genomics offers a rare combination of conditions for AI: large-scale public data already exists, experimental feedback loops run far faster than in human genomics, and the industrial impact is enormous.
In other words: there is data to train on, results we can validate quickly, and no shortage of real-world problems to apply it to.
For the first time, we are building a DNA Foundation Model for the fungal kingdom.
That is why we founded Lamella Bio.
Lamella is not a single product. It is our entire direction. We treat the model and biology as one system. We advance computation and experiment together, validate every prediction with real-world data, and feed those results back into model training.
Today, we are building a small, focused team of researchers and engineers committed to Lamella, and only Lamella.
Now is the time.
We’re looking for the people and investors who will build it with us.
